CRITICAL INCIDENT
MANAGER

The CIM Course is geared toward current staff sergeants and duty
officers desiring an understanding of critical incident
management, senior officers intending to take the 2-week Critical
Incident Commander Course, and current tier 1 commanders
looking to refresh their skills.

This 5-day course covers all aspects of critical incident
management, including command post set-up, SMEAC, mission
statements, call classification, rules of engagement, safety
priorities, note-taking and scribes, NRA decision making, use of
SME’s (mental health professionals, detectives), and legal
authorities.

The course focuses on the “Big 3” call types – barricades, hostage
rescue, and active deadly threat – and describes the tactics to
manage them.  The course also covers commander considerations
for less lethal options (including chemical munitions), mobile
arrests, breaching, and sniper capabilities.

The course also provides an in-depth analysis of the law in Canada
relating to critical incidents and tactical response.

This course is not intended to replace the 2-week CIC Course.
Rather, it is intended to develop skills and knowledge necessary
for critical incident managers who may not have ready access to a
tier 1 critical incident commander or who seek to become a tier 1
critical incident commander in the future.
